Random starter, start the Nuzlocke on Route 103, then Dad in Petalburg.

• 1Receive your random starterHelp Prof. Birch on Route 101. Modern Emerald gives a randomized starter (not a fixed Hoenn trio pick).RequiredYou have an encounter hereMark done
  ▸Hide details

After the moving truck cutscene in Littleroot, help Birch on Route 101. In Modern Emerald your starter is randomized from the challenge/randomizer settings: you don’t pick Mudkip / Torchic / Treecko unless that option is off.

The Nuzlocke has not started yet. Wild encounters before the Route 103 rival fight do not count. Plan early gym prep around whatever species you rolled (Roxanne is Rock; Brawly is Fighting).

Starter is free. Do not treat Route 101 as your first locked encounter.
